THE IDEA
The beginning of our oyster farm is a tale woven from dreams, heritage, and the boundless spirit of entrepreneurship. My father, Andy Kohlhofer, with his deep-rooted passion for the sea, introduced me to the wonders of the waters and the delights of seafood from a young age. He was a visionary, he dreamt of pioneering the first seafood farm on Venezuela's Neveri River. This dream was nurtured alongside tales of my Uncle Dan, an entrepreneurial spirit in Galveston, Texas, whose life was tragically cut short but left behind a legacy tied to the land and the sea.
The real turning point came from a random discovery at a family-owned pond, once reshaped by a hurricane, now teeming with large, thriving oysters. This discovery reignited my father's dream, aligning with a shift in Texas laws that began to permit oyster farming. Thus, the idea was born—not just to farm oysters but to create a legacy of sustainable aquaculture that could contribute to both the economy and the health of the marine ecosystems.
